Social and Environmental Responsibility

Eximius Coffee Group is committed to reducing our impact on the environment on several fronts. In addition to our commitment to a natural decaffeination process and our active development of sustainable packaging solutions, we are working to reduce our operational impact on the environment.

For example, we are an EPA Green Power Partner, with one-third of our energy coming from alternative sources, primarily wind generation. Rather than sending all our coffee waste to a landfill, we burn a portion of it to produce energy to run our boilers. Plus, we use energy-saving fluorescent bulbs throughout the facility to further reduce our overall demand for electricity. Read more on the EPA Green Power Partner website.

Recycling is another environmentally-friendly focus. We recycle the glass jars used for instant coffee, cardboard boxes, packaging film, and even the water used during manufacturing — reused for external cleaning.

All of these efforts not only benefit the environment, but can benefit our customers, by allowing our customers to include the EPA Green Power Partner label on coffee produced in Eximius facilities.

Green Energy

Eximius Coffee Group is an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partner. The EPA program provides guidelines for companies who wish to make a significant reduction in their use of traditional energy sources, in particular, those that are contributing to global warming and are non-renewable. The traditional energy sources are replaced with alternative energy sources like solar or wind-generated power. These new energy sources are considered "green" because they are renewable or unlimited, and utilizing them does not harm the environment.

In addition, Eximius Coffee Group uses energy-saving fluorescent light bulbs throughout the facility to further reduce its overall demand for electricity.

Recycling Programs
  • Recycling glass jars used for instant coffee
  • Recycling packaging film
  • Recycling cardboard boxes
  • Utilizing water used in our natural decaffeination process for external equipment cleaning
  • Burning coffee bean waste to produce energy to run our boilers, thereby reducing our reliance on natural gas. Most coffee companies send their coffee bean waste to landfills.

We plan to implement additional recycling programs in the near future.

Packaging Innovations

We believe packaging innovation is the next big opportunity for manufacturers to help protect the environment and our natural resources. Currently, we are applying the principles of sustainability to packaging by working with our suppliers to reduce the amount of packaging we use to contain and ship our products, and incorporate more recycled and sustainable material into our packaging.

Here is a list of additional ways to make packaging more sustainable:

  • Eliminate toxins (white boxes could be considered part of this group)
  • Review the entire packaging system – from raw material sourcing to transportation – and identify opportunities to improve or add sustainable practices
  • Design products using materials that allow the products to be completely recycled.
  • Adopt or incorporate reusable packaging (gaining mass use in Europe now)
  • Design products using materials that allow the products to be composted.
  • Reduce unnecessary packaging

As we work to adopt sustainable packaging solutions, we welcome the opportunity to pioneer the development of new solutions with our customers. We believe that partnering in this area is not only the right thing to do for future generations but also offers our customers the opportunity to strengthen their brands for many years to come.
